Wyvern Academy

Wyvern Academy, part of the Consilium Academies Trust, is a leading secondary school in Darlington. Its ethos is to be more than just a place of learning with students encouraged to follow their dreams and the school fully supports its pupils to become part of society.

As with any school, one of the main requirements is to review and assess its provision in key areas of today’s education landscape. A constant challenge was to be able show evidence of progress – without the need for lengthy information gathering or creating reports for each Senior Leadership Team meetings. Wyvern Academy turned to School Improvement Tracker to help clearly record, assess and present its provision in three key areas; SEND, Disadvantaged Pupils and Subject Leaders. The Academy was looking for ways to work smarter and reduce workload for its staff.

The Academy first engaged with the SEND audit and found it easy to use and provided an efficient way to record and track the progress of its SEND provision. With the successful introduction of the SEND audit, the Academy went on to use both the Disadvantaged audit and the Subject Leaders audit.

This suite of audits now provides accurate and easy reporting for departmental reviews, weekly meetings and builds evidence of how the school is developing in these key areas for Ofsted and School Governors.

Nicky Brown, Assistant Head and SENCo, said “Having initially purchased the SEND audit and seeing how it gave such a clear framework to work from, it made sense to use this format for the whole school. The reports and visuals make it very accessible for those not working in these areas to see where best practice is and future priorities”.

Nicky went on to say “School Improvement Tracker is fantastic value for money. It lives up to expectations and ultimately gives very busy practitioners peace of mind in reviewing, evidencing progress, producing targets and objectives and preparing for Ofsted”.
